Jason Williams, often referred to as “White Chocolate” and a member of the Miami Heat’s 2006 championship team, recently voiced his disapproval of Enes Kanter.
Kanter has made waves lately, inserting himself into the debate surrounding transgender athletes in women’s sports.
During his time on the “Hoopin’ N Hollerin’” podcast, Williams criticized Kanter’s actions, suggesting they’re just a ploy for attention.
“Enes Kanter, what are you doing? Seriously, what’s your deal? Why does he want to play with women? I mean, can’t he just host a podcast or something? Why this need for attention? I really don’t understand,” Williams said. “To me, seeking attention is not what life’s about. If I wasn’t here with all you guys, I’d still be speaking about the same stuff somewhere else. You’re a tall guy, 6-foot-10, 270 pounds. So why this?”
Kanter recently announced his intention to enter the 2027 WNBA Draft, claiming that he identifies as a woman in a social media video. However, the WNBA responded, stating he doesn’t meet eligibility requirements, although Kanter disagreed.
This past Sunday, he was present at the Indiana Fever versus Chicago Sky game held at Wintrust Arena.
During the match, Kanter had a tense exchange with Sky guard Natasha Cloud, which led to him being escorted out of the venue.
Williams, meanwhile, has a vested interest in women’s sports through his daughter Mia, who recently played softball for Texas Tech in the College World Series. Yet, it seems he may not fully grasp Kanter’s underlying motives in this controversy.
