Jasson Domínguez’s Status with the Yankees

Jasson Domínguez was again on the Yankees’ bench during Wednesday’s game against the Guardians, but that didn’t last long.

Manager Aaron Boone opted to keep Domínguez out of the starting lineup for this match, but the player mentioned that his thumb was feeling better. He expressed a desire to hit in the batting cage in the hours leading up to the game.

Boone echoed those sentiments, affirming that Domínguez seemed to be improving significantly.

Later in the day, Domínguez picked up a bat for the first time since his injury.

After the game, Boone remarked that the post-game hitting session went well, with Domínguez confirming, “it should be good to go.”

This marked Domínguez’s second consecutive game out of the lineup after he injured his thumb while slipping during a stolen base attempt against the Dodgers. Following that play, he left with a left thumb contusion.

Boone had indicated he didn’t expect Domínguez to land on the injured list after Tuesday night’s victory, but feedback suggested a full recovery could still be in progress.

In his absence, Boone noted the loss of Domínguez’s versatility during the Yankees’ matchup against Cleveland.

“I would have used him on Tuesday,” Boone stated, outlining how much his presence was felt again on Wednesday as the Yankees fell 4-0.

Before this game, Boone had shared that if Domínguez’s batting practice went well, he might be available off the bench, but that wasn’t the case during the match.

The Yankees have been juggling their lineup as they have several versatile players, though the injury to Domínguez has shifted things. With him out, Boone placed Trent Grisham in center field, Cody Bellinger in left, and had Ben Rice as designated hitter.

While there’s still some uncertainty about whether Domínguez is truly “good to go,” it seems he’ll be a consideration for Thursday’s game.
