Javier Milei Set to Visit the U.S. to Confirm Support for Trump

Javier Milei’s Upcoming Visit to the U.S.

Argentine President Javier Milei is set to visit the United States this week, with a two-day itinerary aimed at strengthening his ties with the Trump administration, according to reports from Argentine media.

Sources within the Argentine government, who remain unnamed, have indicated that Milei will leave Buenos Aires on Tuesday evening and is expected to arrive in Washington on Wednesday morning. This trip marks his fifth journey to America this year. During his time in Washington, he will be accompanied by Foreign Minister Pablo Quirno, and he plans to return to Argentina on Friday morning.

As noted by Infobae, one of Milei’s key objectives during this visit is to reaffirm his close relationship with the U.S. while also voicing his condemnation of the rising antisemitism that has emerged following the Hamas attack on Israel on October 7, 2023. He is scheduled to meet with U.S. Energy Secretary Chris Wright on Thursday.

While there is no indication that Milei will meet with former President Donald Trump during this trip, some outlets suggest that he may express support for Trump’s administration as the midterm elections approach on November 3.

His Wednesday schedule begins with a meeting with Argentine entrepreneur Andy Kleinman, which will be followed by a discussion with oil magnate Harold Hamm.

Later that evening, Milei is invited as a guest of honor to the Official Hispanic Heritage Gala at the Andrew W. Mellon Auditorium, where he will receive an award for “Leadership and Global Impact within the Framework of Hispanic Heritage.” Milei is expected to give a speech at the event and may have brief meetings with Republican Party members and other conservative attendees present.

Milei is also anticipated to meet with Eduardo Bolsonaro, a former Brazilian congressman and the son of conservative candidate Flávio Bolsonaro, who is currently seeking political asylum in the U.S. Bolsonaro has faced political issues in Brazil and was recently sentenced to a four-year imprisonment for political discussions while in the U.S. President Milei has publicly supported Flávio Bolsonaro’s campaign and has been critical of the current Brazilian president, Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, who is gearing up for a runoff election against Flávio Bolsonaro on October 25.

On Thursday, Milei will speak at the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, where he will deliver a presentation titled, “The Argentine Case: The Challenge of Economic Growth After Decades of Populism.” The event will kick off with remarks from U.S. Energy Secretary Chris Wright, followed by Milei, who will discuss the economic reforms his administration has initiated to address the challenges left by previous socialist governments. He is also expected to receive the “Global Champion of Free Enterprise” award.

The conclusion of Milei’s visit will involve participation in an event hosted by the International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance (IHRA) titled, “Expanding the Boundaries of Memory: A Hemispheric Dialogue on the Holocaust and the Fight Against Antisemitism,” at the Argentine Embassy in Washington.

Milei’s trip follows a recent visit to New York for the 81st session of the U.N. General Assembly, where he delivered a speech criticizing the organization, calling it ineffective and describing it as a vehicle for a group of “fatally arrogant parasites.”

After this visit, it has been reported that President Milei will spend a weekend in Argentina before heading to Madrid, Spain, on Monday. His schedule there is still being finalized, but it will likely include meetings with local politicians and participation in academic and business discussions ahead of Spain’s upcoming elections on November 29. He is expected to meet with Isabel Díaz Ayuso, the President of the Autonomous Community of Madrid, and Santiago Abascal, the leader of the VOX party.

Milei is set to leave Madrid on Thursday, October 22, returning to Buenos Aires shortly afterward.
