The Giants and their supporters are grappling with the disappointing news that quarterback Jaxson Dart will undergo season-ending surgery due to a knee injury sustained during “Monday Night Football” against the Rams.
This tough situation has many wondering about Dart’s future, as well as that of the Giants overall.
The MRI revealed that while Dart’s ACL is intact, he did sustain damage to his MCL, PCL, and meniscus.
The serious nature of the injury has led Giants legend Tiki Barber to question Dart’s standing with the team.
“It sucks, more importantly for Jaxson Dart, because he’s going to be a huge question mark when he finally comes back. If we don’t see him, and we had these questions before the season, now we’re gonna have them after this injury. By the end of this year, the team has to decide whether to pick up his fifth-year option… we just won’t know,” Barber expressed during an appearance on WFAN’s “Evan and Tiki.”
“And let’s not forget, John Harbaugh didn’t draft him,” he added. “I know that may not be what we want to hear, but it’s the truth about being an NFL player. It’s very much about ‘What have you done for me lately?’ and you can be replaced just like that. I’m not trying to sugarcoat it—Jaxson Dart might not be the guy.”
Barber’s words may seem harsh in light of Dart’s situation, but he’s not the only one raising these concerns; discussions online hint at what the Giants might do moving forward.
If the team struggles without Dart, they could be in a position to secure a high draft pick in the 2027 class, which boasts several promising quarterback prospects.
With this season now behind him, Dart will have played just 16 games across his first two NFL seasons.
