Jaxson Dart's knee injury assessment is ongoing, with a significant chance that he could be out for the rest of the season.

The possibility that Jaxson Dart might miss the entire season for the New York Giants isn’t off the table, according to a source who spoke with Outkick on Tuesday. Medical assessments on Dart’s left knee are still ongoing.

He, along with his medical team and the Giants, will decide on how to handle the knee injury he sustained early in Monday night’s game against the Los Angeles Rams.

The source did not provide specific reasons for Dart potentially missing the rest of the season. However, if he needs surgery on a detached MCL ligament, it could mean a recovery period of four to five months, making that scenario more likely.

During a press conference on Tuesday, Giants coach John Harbaugh was cautious about confirming any details. He stated, “I’m not sure exactly what news or anything’s been stated, but right now, evaluations are ongoing. We haven’t got any final decisions yet.” He expressed a desire to wait until all information is in before discussing the situation further.

Harbaugh mentioned that he would meet with Dart after receiving a second opinion on the MRI conducted on Tuesday. The next steps will be determined collaboratively by Dart, the medical experts, and the team.

After dart’s injury was initially reported as a sprained MCL, Harbaugh acknowledged that the reports were in the “correct neighborhood.” Meanwhile, ESPN noted that general manager Joe Schoen assured that Dart “will be OK,” though the timeline for this remains uncertain.

What is clear, unfortunately, is that Dart won’t be playing against the Tennessee Titans on Sunday. In the meantime, Jameis Winston is stepping up as the Giants’ starting quarterback. Additionally, Jake Haener may be promoted from the practice squad to serve as a backup, and there might be plans to bring in Brandon Allen as well.

This situation is clearly a setback for the Giants, who seem to be facing a difficult season, especially so early into it. Many fans can’t help but feel that the team is under a streak of bad luck, having witnessed several key players, like Dart, receiver Malik Nabers, running back Cam Skattebo, and tackle Andrew Thomas suffer significant injuries in recent seasons. It raises a troubling question: When will the Giants’ best players finally be able to contribute consistently without missing time?
