Jay Cutler allegedly offered $2,000 to driver he rear-ended before DUI arrest

More details have emerged about former NFL quarterback Jay Cutler's DUI arrest earlier this week.

Police in Franklin, Tenn., a suburb of Nashville, responded to a call Thursday afternoon after Cutler allegedly rear-ended a driver in front of him.

Cutler allegedly offered the other driver $2,000 not to call police. According to police documents reviewed by WGN.,

Police said Cutler, 41, had bloodshot eyes and was slurring his speech at the time of the encounter.

Cutler told police he had not consumed alcohol, but later admitted he had had “a little bit”.

Police said Cutler refused to take a breathalyzer test at the scene and then had blood drawn for testing at the hospital.

Blood test results are pending.

Police added that Cutler had a rifle and a loaded Glock in his car.

In addition to first offense DUI, Cutler is also charged with failure to exercise due care to avoid a collision and possession of a handgun while under the influence.

Cutler was released Thursday on $5,000 bail.

Cutler's NFL career lasted from 2006 to 2017.

He was a first-round pick of the Broncos, played three seasons with Denver, made the Pro Bowl in 2008, and then played eight years with the Bears.

In 2017, he was recruited from the Fox Sports announce booth to join the Dolphins.

Cutler threw for more than 35,000 yards, 227 touchdown passes and 160 interceptions in his NFL career.

He was previously married to former MTV star Kristin Cavallari.
