Jay Cutler faces a lawsuit following a DUI accident after serving time in jail

Jay Cutler Faces Lawsuit Following DUI Incident

Former NFL player Jay Cutler is in the spotlight again, this time due to a lawsuit connected to a DUI crash. He was sentenced to prison earlier and is now being sued by another driver involved in the accident.

The driver, Perry Lee, officially filed the lawsuit on September 2. He is seeking compensation for unexpected medical bills and claims of “physical and mental distress.” The crash took place in Franklin, Tennessee on October 17, 2024, and Lee alleges that it led to losses in wages and other out-of-pocket expenses.

In a statement, John Morgan, the founder of Morgan & Morgan, who represents Lee, emphasized that their client, a veteran, suffered injuries due to Cutler’s alleged negligence. The statement pointed out that the collision has had a lasting effect on Lee’s daily life, causing ongoing pain and diminishing his quality of life.

Lee’s lawyer also pointed out that Cutler was intoxicated during the incident, which compromised his ability to operate his vehicle safely and avoid harming others.

Representatives for Cutler have not yet responded to requests for comment.

Cutler, 42, recently completed a four-day jail sentence after reaching a plea deal related to the DUI and a gun possession charge. He pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor DUI, while the gun charge was dismissed.

In addition to his jail time, Cutler faces a $350 fine, a year of supervised probation, and must undergo regular and random drug testing. His driver’s license has also been revoked.

Last October, Cutler was arrested for a range of offenses, including DUI and several other charges related to reckless behavior behind the wheel. Reports have indicated that he tried to evade the scene and allegedly offered the other driver $2,000 to not call the police.

At the time of his arrest, law enforcement noted that Cutler appeared visibly intoxicated, and during a search, they discovered two firearms in his vehicle.

Though he has not publicly addressed the incident, his ex-wife, Kristin Cavallari, expressed her hope that he seeks the help he needs. The couple shares three children: Camden, Jackson, and Saylor.
