Noooo! Not my QB1!
Jayden Daniels, the standout quarterback for the Washington Commanders and my Miami Sharks fantasy football team, was carted off the field on Sunday after suffering a dislocated left elbow during a 37-20 loss to the Dallas Cowboys. Of course, it happened on the last play of the first half.
After the match, Commanders head coach Dan Quinn mentioned that X-rays showed no fractures, but more imaging tests would be conducted on Daniels on Monday.
It seemed that Daniels’ foot was accidentally stepped on by left guard Chris Paul as he took the snap on the 1-yard line during a crucial third-and-goal moment. When he went down, he tried to brace himself with his left elbow, and, well, you can probably guess how that turned out.
For those concerned—like me—Jayden Daniels is expected to be out for about a month. At least that’s the idea; I’ll dive into that soon.
Coach Dan Quinn shared that Daniels suffered another dislocated left elbow, though the X-rays were negative. The last time he had this injury, he missed around a month.
My fantasy football team had a huge win on Sunday, but it’s a bit of a bittersweet feeling with my quarterback on the sidelines. So, honestly, what were the Commanders thinking?
If you’re going to throw in that situation, you should line up in the shotgun, let Jayden scan the field, and throw it away quickly if nothing’s available. Putting him directly under center on a crowded 1-yard line only sets up for trouble. The fact that it was caused by his own lineman makes it even more frustrating.
Yes, it was an unfortunate mishap, but it could have been avoided with better decision-making in the game. Now my fantasy team bears the brunt of what seems like sheer foolishness.
What really concerns me is that this injury affects the same elbow he dislocated last season against the Seattle Seahawks. Dislocating a major joint once weakens it; experiencing a second dislocation within a year shifts the discussion from, “He’ll miss a month in a brace,” to the scary possibility of needing surgery.
Here’s hoping for a miracle from the MRI scheduled for Monday because looking at my league’s waiver wire … yikes.
