Jayden Williams, the youngest mayor in Stockbridge, Georgia, has been removed from his position.

The youngest mayor in Georgia was ousted from his position merely ten months after he took office amid serious allegations. Jayden Williams, who recently turned 23, faced accusations of misusing city funds and engaging in inappropriate communications with an 18-year-old high school student.

The Stockbridge City Council, located south of Atlanta, voted to impeach Williams, who had only been in office since January. “The City of Stockbridge confirms that the City Council has taken formal action concerning the Office of Mayor,” the city announced on Sunday. “The Mayor has been removed from office.”

According to reports, Williams allegedly spent over $4,000 on personal items using a city purchasing card, which included expenses for dining, clothing, haircuts, and even a movie. There were also claims that he spent about $2,600 on gas and misused a city vehicle for personal activities.

This inappropriate spending came to light when city employees noticed suspicious transactions involving public funds and promptly alerted management and the legal team. Williams stated during his testimony that he had not intended to engage in misuse of funds and mentioned that he eventually repaid the money. He also explained that the similarity between his city-issued card and his personal card led to the confusion, which he later rectified by replacing the cards.

In addition to the financial misconduct, there were allegations that Williams exchanged sexually suggestive messages and explicit images with an 18-year-old male student. A police report indicated that while there were no legal violations since the student was classified as an adult under Georgia law, the police referred the issue for administrative review due to the ethical implications of an elected official engaging with a young adult in a situation that was part of a city-linked mentorship program.

Williams noted in a statement that his interactions with the individual took place before he assumed office. He asserted that the student had never participated in the city’s “Mayor for a Day” program, which he clarified was not a mentorship initiative. “The individual was 18 years old at the time of our communication, meaning we were both adults. I met this individual on November 30, and our online communication occurred before I was sworn in,” Williams emphasized.

After initially taking office while still a student at Clark Atlanta University, he became the youngest mayor in Georgia’s history. Despite being stripped of certain official privileges during the investigation that began on July 17, Williams has not faced any criminal charges related to the allegations.
