Celtics’ Jaylen Brown Blames Referees for Loss to Jazz
Jaylen Brown of the Boston Celtics expressed frustration towards the referees following a disappointing defeat against the Utah Jazz on Monday night, claiming that a crucial call cost them the game.
With less than a minute remaining and the Celtics holding a slight one-point lead, Brown stumbled while driving towards the basket, seemingly tripping Jazz guard Keyontae George in the process. The ball was lost by Brown, but the Jazz quickly regained possession, allowing Lauri Markkanen to score, putting Utah ahead 103-102.
No foul was called on George for the incident.
The Jazz managed to rally back from a double-digit deficit in the second half to secure a 105-103 victory, yet Brown remained adamant that the officiating played a significant role in the loss. He stated, “You can’t make a mistake like that as an official at that point in the game. It’s the fourth quarter, with a minute or less to go, and the whole staff just blew up their insubordination, you know what I mean? It cost us the game. That’s not acceptable.”
The crew chief, Kevin Scott, defended the decision not to call a foul, explaining that Brown and George both slipped in the same area, which led to the play that resulted in the turnover. Scott said, “During live play, staff observed George slip and fall just before Brown slipped in the same spot, resulting in the ball coming loose before contact.”
Despite leading the Celtics with 36 points, Brown struggled with his shooting from beyond the arc, finishing without a single three-pointer, going 0-for-9. The team as a whole had a rough night, shooting only 21.6% from three-point range, marking a season low.
