Jaylen Brown Faces Apology Over Comments About Joel Embiid
It looks like Jaylen Brown might owe Joel Embiid an apology after some remarks made during a Twitch stream this offseason. They are set to become teammates in Philadelphia, which adds an interesting twist.
A video resurfaced on social media, showing Brown calling Embiid a “flopper” after the announcement of Brown’s trade to the 76ers, part of a significant deal that included Paul George heading to the Celtics. This clip is from a livestream right after the Sixers eliminated the Celtics in the playoffs.
In the video, Brown candidly commented on Embiid. He stated, “This is my personal opinion about basketball. Some people may disagree, but discuss it with your grandma. Flopping ruined our game. Joel Embiid is a great player, one of the best bigs in the history of basketball. Flop. He knows it. This isn’t breaking news. That’s the reality.” He even went as far as saying people could post his remarks wherever they wanted.
Initially, many seemed to take his comments at face value, but they’ve circulated again now that Brown is heading to a team where he will play alongside Embiid. It’s an awkward situation, to say the least.
While it might appear a bit careless now, it’s unlikely that this will create any real issues between them. Embiid will certainly appreciate any help he can get as the 76ers look to rebound from their disappointing postseason exit against the Knicks. That loss was tough; the Knicks fans really took over Xfinity Mobile Arena.
Brown’s performance last season was notable—he averaged a career-high of 28.7 points, along with 6.9 rebounds and 5.1 assists per game over 71 games with the Celtics.
This trade follows some positive affirmations from Celtics president of basketball operations, Brad Stevens, who had been vocal about Brown’s importance to the team amidst speculation about his future. Stevens expressed, “Jaylen Brown is huge for us. I’m never trying to predict the future. All the signs, everything I think over the last few years has been built around those guys.” He emphasized Brown’s value, calling him a great teammate and person.
