MELBOURNE, Australia — Freestyle motocross athlete Jayden “Jayo” Archer, the first rider to complete a triple backflip in competition, has died while practicing in Melbourne. He was 27 years old.
The accident occurred on Wednesday, but few details have been released. Victoria Police said Thursday it would not comment on individuals or cases due to privacy concerns.
Archer was a member of the Nitro Circus crew for more than a decade. The group confirmed his death in an Instagram post.
Nitro Circus said, “Jayyo was the epitome of passion, hard work and determination.” “He has pushed what is possible on a dirt bike to heights never seen before. Australian media reported that Archer, a two-time X Games medalist, plans to attempt the world’s first quadruple backflip later this year.
“We are deeply saddened by the loss of Jayo Archer and our thoughts and prayers go out to his parents and fiancée,” X Games Interim Chief Operating Officer Scott Guglielmino said in a statement to ESPN.
“One of the most dedicated and charismatic FMX riders, Jayo will be missed by the X Games family.”
One of only three riders to perform a triple backflip on a dirt bike, Archer became the first to successfully perform the trick at the Nitro World Games competition in Brisbane, Australia in November 2022. Became a rider.
