Jazz Chisholm Jr. Shines in Dramatic ALDS Game 3 Win
Jazz Chisholm Jr. is known for bringing the excitement, and in Game 3 of the ALDS on Tuesday, with a thrilling 9-6 victory, he delivered yet again.
The game didn’t start off well for him. In the top of the third inning, he made a poor throw home that put the Yankees’ season in jeopardy. It looked like a rough night was ahead.
But just a couple of innings later, Chisholm redeemed himself with a solo home run in the bottom of the fifth, marking a turning point in the game as the Yankees took their first lead. His signature bat flip followed, a celebration he loves to showcase.
The Yankees had added two runs in the bottom of the third, and Aaron Judge tied things up with a dramatic three-run homer that grazed the left field foul pole.
On a charged night in the Bronx, Chisholm connected with a 99 mph pitch from Louis Burland, sending a ball soaring 409 feet into the right-center seats, putting the Yankees ahead 7-6.
From that moment on, the Yankees didn’t look back.
However, Carlos Rodon struggled right from the start, and the Blue Jays took advantage of that, causing early difficulties for the Yankees’ defense.
Meanwhile, Cody Bellinger made a valiant attempt to catch a ball hit by Dalton Versionocho in left center, but the ball slipped from his glove, allowing Davis Schneider and Vladimir Guerrero Jr. to advance.
Shortly after, Schneider slid near third base, but Trent Grisham, who chased down the ball, made a crucial throw to Chisholm at second. In response, Schneider dashed toward home.
As the game progressed, Ernie Clement struck a key hit to left field, while Anthony Santander followed up with a two-run hit to the right, giving Toronto a five-run advantage.
Yet, rather than succumbing to yet another disappointing defeat, the Yankees rallied. Chisholm had faced challenges earlier in the postseason, with no home runs and four strikeouts in his last five games, managing just three hits out of 16 at-bats.
These playoffs had kicked off with Chisholm not even starting in Game 1 against the Red Sox, where left-handed pitcher Garrett Crochette had the mound. Following that loss, he seemed distant in post-game interviews, stating, “You have to do everything you need to do to win, right? That’s how I see it.”
In their subsequent game against Boston, Chisholm bounced back with two hits, but the ALDS game started off sluggish for him. Nonetheless, as the Yankees made their comeback, he hit one of the biggest home runs of the playoffs. Now, if the team aims to overcome the Blue Jays and secure a place in the ALCS, they’ll need just two more victories.
