Kansas City Update on Jazz Chisholm Jr.
Kansas City, Mo. – Jazz Chisholm Jr. seems to have sidestepped a serious injury, but ongoing issues are making things tricky for him.
The Yankees pulled him from the lineup against the Royals after he exited Wednesday’s game early, complaining of tension in his left groin. He had hoped to play after recovering from a ground ball mishap at third base, but the training staff advised against it, as manager Aaron Boone noted after the game.
“I’m optimistic he’ll either start or at least come off the bench on Friday,” Boone stated.
Chisholm, however, thinks that his decision to leave the game Wednesday might have spared him from more significant damage.
This wasn’t the first time he’s left a game early; it happened for the second consecutive outing. He had also experienced discomfort on Tuesday, which seemed to snowball into neck strain as well.
Since breaking into the Big Leagues in 2020, Chisholm has found himself on the injured list at least once every season for the last five years.
“I was really frustrated on Wednesday,” he expressed, mentioning how it feels compounded by his injury history. “It’s annoying, especially because I feel like I do everything right—working with trainers, keeping up with massages, eating well. I feel like I’m taking care of my body as best I can.”
“So when something goes wrong, it feels particularly disheartening. I mean, as a kid, I might have skipped some hydration and rest, but I think I understand better now,” he added. “It’s just… part of the game.”
Rehab Updates and Roster Moves
In a change of direction, Giancarlo Stanton participated in his third rehab game with Double A Somerset on Thursday night but finished 0-4 with two strikeouts. Boone mentioned the team hasn’t yet finalized his next steps, including a potential return for the series against Boston this weekend.
Additionally, the Yankees released left-hander Brandon Reebrandt from his minor league contract, which allows him to join the CTBC Brothers Baseball Club in Taiwan’s professional league. The 32-year-old had a 2.85 ERA in 10 games while with Scranton/Wilkes-Barre.
