Jazz Chisholm's major home run aids Yankees in ending their slump after playful antics

Yankees Snap Losing Streak with Win Over Tigers

DETROIT — Jazz Chisholm Jr. made headlines during the Yankees’ game against the Tigers, especially after an unusual incident the night before. Chisholm was spotted chewing on a lollipop while playing second base, which didn’t sit well with his manager. On Tuesday, he shifted his focus and let his bat do the talking.

In the sixth inning, with the Yankees down by one, Chisholm launched a two-run home run that helped the team take a 4-2 lead, ultimately defeating the Tigers 4-3 at Comerica Park. This victory ended a three-game losing streak for New York.

Before the inning concluded, Austin Wells contributed an RBI double, further extending the Yankees’ lead. David Bednar closed the game with a four-out save.

After hitting his 12th home run of the season off righty Casey Mize, Chisholm celebrated with his teammates in the dugout, then playfully grabbed a box of Blow Pops and showcased it to nearby cameras.

Earlier that day, manager Aaron Boone acknowledged Chisholm’s lollipop antics during a press briefing, expressing his feelings on the matter while trying to downplay it to reporters.

Chisholm didn’t share much about the incident before the game, saying, “I’ll keep that to myself,” but his performance certainly highlighted his skills, despite the playful distractions.

Carlos Rodon had a mixed outing on the mound, pitching 5 1/3 innings and giving up three runs. He struggled in the third inning, allowing two runs off three singles and a wild pitch, but managed to keep the game in check. In the sixth, back-to-back doubles by the Tigers cut the Yankees’ lead to just one run.

Rodon responded by striking out Riley Greene, and Fernando Cruz came in to halt the Tigers’ momentum, issuing a walk. In the fourth inning, Cody Bellinger made a key defensive play, throwing home to nail a runner trying to score from second. Additionally, Jason Dominguez made a critical catch in right field, doubling off a runner at first base to end the seventh.

Chisholm had earlier put the Yankees on the board, hitting consecutive singles with Spencer Jones in the fourth inning, then scoring on Jose Caballero’s groundout to tighten the game at 2-1.
