Vance Reflects on Musk’s Relationship with Trump
Vice President JD Vance expressed that Elon Musk made an error in opposing President Trump but remains optimistic about bringing Tesla’s leadership back to the White House by the 2026 midterm elections. He emphasized Musk’s significant role in supporting Trump’s 2024 campaign.
“I’m not sure if he’d answer my call right now,” Vance mentioned. He noted the “complex relationship” Musk has with the Biden administration, pointing out that recent events underscore this tension.
“Honestly, I hope things cool off a bit,” Vance added. “A true patriot wouldn’t try to harm the president or betray his movement. It’s just not how things should be.” His comments reflect a mix of frustration and hope for reconciliation.
Vance acknowledged that Musk faces challenges due to ongoing conflicts. He argued that, despite Musk’s desires, he might not find acceptance from the left again. “It’s unwise to think he can return to being on good terms with the president,” Vance stated, wishing for a more harmonious relationship moving forward.
Musk had previously distanced himself from the Trump administration in late May, when Trump had predicted Musk would continuously support him. However, Musk’s departure didn’t last long; he later critiqued a significant legislative bill, voicing concerns over its impact on the deficit, labeling it as “pork” and “hateful” on social media.
Despite Musk’s efforts to challenge this legislation, Republicans successfully moved it through Congress, leading to Trump’s signing of the bill on July 4th. In response, Musk considered launching a centrist political party, which Trump dismissed as “silly.”
“It’s disappointing to see Elon Musk completely off track,” Trump remarked about their falling out. This shift in their relationship was referred to as “very nasty” by White House Chief Susie Wills, who noted that Musk’s previous commitment had been deeply invested.
“The president was kind to him, and Elon possessed valuable insights into technology and connections we lacked,” Wills observed, further lamenting the unfortunate ending to their alliance.
