VP J.D. Vance Comments on 2028 Democratic Candidates
In a recent appearance on Fox News’ “Jesse Watters Prime Time,” Vice President J.D. Vance shared his thoughts on the potential Democratic nominees for the 2028 presidential election. He expressed that the “stupidest candidate” between former Vice President Kamala Harris and California Governor Gavin Newsom could end up being the party’s pick.
Vance pointed out what he sees as significant issues within the Democratic Party, stating, “They’re so obsessed with wokeism that they don’t recognize that Kamala Harris isn’t qualified to be president. That’s why she was chosen as vice president in 2020 and is now considered again for 2024.” He labeled both candidates as indicative of deeper dysfunction within the party, suggesting that their prominence reflects serious problems.
According to polling data, Newsom and Harris are the leading candidates for the Democratic nomination. Currently, Newsom has a 23.6% approval rating while Harris follows with 21.4%, per RealClearPolitics’ voting average.
The New York Times mentioned that relationships between Harris and Newsom have reportedly become strained, particularly after Newsom did not return Harris’ calls when President Biden announced his re-election bid.
Interestingly, both politicians began their prominent public careers on January 8, 2004, when Newsom took office as the Mayor of San Francisco and Harris became the city’s District Attorney.
Vance, meanwhile, is considered the frontrunner for the Republican nomination in 2028, holding a substantial lead over competitors like Donald Trump Jr., according to the same polling data.
While Vance has indicated intentions to prioritize the upcoming 2026 midterm elections, he also noted plans to discuss 2028 with former President Trump after the elections. He commented on the Democratic strategy, criticizing their focus on combating Trump rather than addressing issues like tax reform or crime rates.
“They have little to run on,” Vance asserted, adding that their primary objective seems to be targeting Trump. “It’s not smart to focus solely on that,” he remarked. He believes voters should support candidates who aim to make life more affordable and neighborhoods safer.
Addressing concerns around the economy, Vance was dismissive of the notion that Democrats’ messaging on affordability could pose a threat, claiming any financial struggles are largely a consequence of Democratic policies. “We’ve only been in office for less than a year, and already prices are beginning to drop,” he explained, pointing to decreasing costs in housing and groceries as signs of improvement, even if more work remains.
