JD Vance Challenges Reporter on Questions About Nationalizing Elections

VP J.D. Vance Responds to Reporter on Trump’s Election Plan

On Wednesday, Vice President J.D. Vance reacted sharply to a question posed by a reporter regarding President Donald Trump’s call for a “nationalization of elections.”

Trump previously suggested that the Republican Party should push for a plan that mandates all voters to present government-issued identification before casting their votes. Vance expressed his support for this idea, asserting that voter ID should be required for anyone participating in U.S. elections.

“If by interfering in elections you mean ensuring everyone has voter ID before they can vote here, then let me be clear: that’s what you should do,” Vance stated.

This remark sparked chants of “USA!” from the audience.

The SAVE Act, which passed the House with a vote of 218-213 on February 12, saw Democratic Texas Rep. Henry Cuellar as the sole Democrat in support. The Senate voted 51-48 to advance the bill, which will be debated over the coming days.

Interestingly, Republican Alaska Senator Lisa Murkowski was the only Republican to oppose the bill, while North Carolina Senator Thom Tillis, a notable critic of filibuster usage, missed the vote.

In a move to exert pressure, Trump urged Senate Majority Leader John Thune to secure the votes necessary to move the Election Integrity Act forward. He warned that he would veto any other legislation if the Senate doesn’t pass the SAVE Act.

“Republicans should declare that they want to take over,” Trump mentioned in a conversation with former FBI Deputy Director Dan Bongino. “We need to take over voting, at least in various places. Republicans should nationalize voting.”
