Vance Critiques Psaki Over Prayer Comments Following School Shooting

Vice President JD Vance expressed strong disapproval of MSNBC host Jen Psaki on Thursday after she criticized the use of prayers in light of the recent shooting at a Minneapolis Catholic school.

In a post on X, Vance defended the act of prayer following the tragedy, questioning why Psaki would attack this practice when, just a day earlier, children were praying amidst the chaos. “We pray because our hearts are broken. We pray because we know that God will listen. We pray because we understand that God can work in mysterious ways to guide future actions,” he wrote. He challenged her, asking, “Do you feel the need to attack others for praying when a child has just prayed?”

In a subsequent post, he seemed to express disbelief at Psaki’s comments, asking, “What are you talking about?”

Authorities have identified the shooter responsible for the violence at the Minneapolis Announcement Catholic School on Wednesday, where two children tragically lost their lives and 17 others were injured during morning mass.

Vance’s comments were a direct response to Psaki’s critique posted the previous day, where she condemned the notion of thoughts and prayers following such incidents. She stated, “Prayers don’t go far enough. Prayers don’t end school shootings. Prayers don’t make parents feel safe sending their children to school. Prayers don’t bring these children back. Thoughts and prayers are insufficient.”

Psaki also used the opportunity to criticize the Trump administration’s response to crime in Washington, D.C., remarking, “Your children are shot while attending a Catholic school mass, and your crime plan is to position the National Guard around D.C. in mulch? Perhaps it’s time to rethink your strategy.”
