Vance Uncertain About Trump’s Endorsement for 2028

In a recent interview, Vice President JD Vance mentioned he isn’t entirely sure if he would receive President Donald Trump’s endorsement if he decides to run for president in 2028. This discussion took place during a conversation with journalist Mark Halperin on the platform 2Way, just ahead of the midterm elections, where Republican Party efforts are focused on maintaining control in Congress.

Vance, who emphasized that his immediate priority is the midterm elections, expressed uncertainty about a potential presidential bid in 2028. He did, however, suggest, “I think if I run, the president will endorse me.”

Halperin probed about whether Trump would endorse him “right away.” Vance replied, “I would think so, but I don’t know, man. I haven’t talked to him about it.” When Halperin implied it might be awkward for Vance to bring up his 2028 aspirations to Trump and potentially not receive an endorsement, Vance countered this idea. He posited that while he believes he would ultimately gain Trump’s support, there’s merit to allowing the race to unfold without prematurely jumping to conclusions.

Earlier in their discussion, Halperin referenced Vance’s past comments suggesting that whoever gets Trump’s endorsement for the Republican nomination is likely to win that primary. Vance concurred, noting this generally holds for both major parties, but pointed out that Trump’s backing is particularly powerful due to his connection with ordinary voters, which contrasts with the reservations many party elites have had about him.

“That’s the person they say, ‘Okay, if Trump is with a guy, that must mean that the elites are against that guy,'” Vance remarked, asserting that Trump’s endorsement carries more weight than any other political support in history. He acknowledged, though, that the final decision lies with the voters.

Vance’s uncertainty regarding Trump’s endorsement follows earlier remarks from Trump, who hinted at the idea of pitting Vance against Secretary of State Marco Rubio for his support in the upcoming race. Trump referred to the two as a “dream team” at an event earlier this year but has remained coy about who would take the lead.

As Vance navigates these discussions, he maintains a focus on current responsibilities, stating, “I love Marco. I think he’s a great secretary of state. He’s become a very, very dear friend. But I think both of us are very much focused on accomplishing the American people’s business right now.”

Fox News Digital sought comments from the White House but received no response.
