President Biden recently declared that the Equal Rights Amendment (ERA) has become the “law of the land,” a comment that drew ridicule in his final days in office.
Mr. Biden is also not immune to insults from Vice President-elect J.D. Vance.
Mr. Vance reacted to Mr. Biden's declaration. In the post of X, Biden jokes that defunct MLB icon should be desecrated pete rose Inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame.
“Hey Joe, if we're doing a fake ST on the way out, could you please declare Pete Rose a Hall of Famer?” Vance wrote. “See you in two days!”
Rose, who died in September, was permanently banned from MLB for illegal gambling.
Rose was suspended in 1989 after an investigation concluded that he not only gambled on MLB games, but also bet on Cincinnati Reds games while he was the team's manager.
Rose signed a contract with commissioner Bart Giamatti declaring him permanently ineligible to play baseball, but decided to petition for reinstatement and avoid a formal declaration that he was betting on baseball. Allowed.
Over the past few decades, Mr. Rose has unsuccessfully appealed numerous times to be reinstated.
As a player, Rose won three World Series championships, two with the Reds and once with the Phillies, appeared in 17 All-Star Games, and was named National League MVP in 1973.
He currently holds the record for most hits in MLB history with 4,256 hits.
However, his gambling scandal has made him one of the most controversial figures in the Baseball Hall of Fame since his retirement.
His absence from the Hall of Fame is one of the most hotly debated debates in sports.
So Vance had no qualms about referencing Rose's famous Hall of Fame controversy to mock the outgoing president.
In a statement, Biden cited an opinion from the American Bar Association and argued that the ERA “has cleared all the necessary hurdles to be formally added to the Constitution.”
Biden added, “I agree with the ABA and leading constitutional scholars that the Equal Rights Amendment is now part of our Constitution.”
But despite Biden's claims, the National Archives disagreed.
The post on X refers to the ERA as the “Land Act” and implies that the ERA is already part of the Constitution, which is not the case. Social media users were quick to point this out, with some calling the president a “dictator.”
ERA, a constitutional amendment that guarantees “equal rights under the law” to all Americans, regardless of gender.
Its latest iteration was the New York Democratic Party's swift response to the Supreme Court's Dobbs v. Jackson Women's Health Organization decision in June 2022.
