J.D. Vance is “America’s number one emissary,” former Rep. Lee Zeldin (R-N.Y.) said in an interview with Breitbart News Washington bureau chief Matthew Boyle at the Republican National Convention on Tuesday.
Responding to President Trump’s historic pick for vice president, Zeldin praised the freshman U.S. senator, describing him as “America’s number one emissary.”
“He’s really underrated and in some cases not known for his communication skills. Smart. He’s a man of conviction.” [a] The former Marine and entrepreneur grew up in poverty and fought hard to get out of it, but he never forgot where he came from. [He] “I’ll never forget it’s been a fight of my life to get out at this point,” he said, expressing confidence that Vance “will never wake up today with a bloated head or with his feet not on the ground.”
“I look forward to watching him be sworn in as the next vice president,” Zeldin said, praising his ability to express himself clearly even against his opponents.
“I remember listening to an interview where he was on a hostile network with a hostile anchor asking tough questions. JD pushed back. The anchor pushed back. JD pushed back. He stood his ground, but he did it in a likeable way,” he continued.
“He doesn’t come across as angry or upset or not knowing what to say next or being evasive. He’s being sincere, giving the most honest answers he can, solution-oriented and trying to move the country forward rather than just answering questions,” he added.
