VP JD Vance Concerned About NFL’s Favoritism Toward Chiefs
Vice President JD Vance has expressed his apprehension over the possibility that the NFL might show favoritism towards the Kansas City Chiefs, particularly given that tight end Travis Kelce is now engaged to singer Taylor Swift. Vance, who identifies as a Cincinnati Bengals fan, conveyed his worries about the implications for upcoming games, especially the Super Bowl. “As a football fan,” he said, “I hope the NFL doesn’t bend the rules for the Chiefs.”
Vance’s concerns stem from the recent engagement announcement of Kelce and Swift, which he feels could lead to overly romanticized storylines both on and off the field. “I can’t help but worry that they might even plan a Super Bowl wedding during the season,” he noted. “That’s just not fair; the Chiefs should adhere to the same standards as everyone else.”
Despite his worries, Vance offered congratulations to the newly engaged couple, emphasizing that politicians should stay focused on political matters. “When I see two people getting married, I genuinely wish them well,” he added. “I hope they have a long and happy life together.”
NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell brushed off the idea that officials might have made favorable calls in favor of the Chiefs, calling such theories “ridiculous” during a recent press conference.
This season has seen the Chiefs struggle, having lost all three preseason games of 2025-2026. Swift, who first garnered attention at a Chiefs game in September 2023, has consistently supported Kelce, even bringing celebrity friends to his matches. Over their relationship, the Chiefs have appeared in the Super Bowl twice.
In 2024, Kelce helped his team secure a victory over the 49ers in Super Bowl LVIII, but they lost to the Philadelphia Eagles in 2025. Some conspiracy theorists have speculated that their relationship serves as a political tactic for Democrats to retain control of the White House. Swift recently made headlines by posting on Instagram, hinting at past criticisms she faced from Vance. In turn, Vance labeled her a “disrupted” billionaire during a segment on Fox News.
“People appreciate Taylor Swift’s music, but feelings about her vary widely,” Vance remarked, referencing comments made by Americans during a Fox News interview in September 2024.
Swift and Kelce announced their engagement on a recent Tuesday after dating for two years, humorously captioning their joint Instagram post with, “Your English teacher and your gym teacher are married.”
