JD Vance Sparks Controversy on Bluesky

Vice President JD Vance isn’t known for sidestepping confrontations. As someone who rose from humble beginnings to a prominent role in one of the world’s largest nations, Vance seems to thrive in contentious settings.

At the Munich Security Conference in February, he made headlines when he criticized a drift towards tyranny in ideologies that once aligned with those of the United States. This bold stance was shortly followed by a meeting with UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer in the Oval Office.

His fiery exchanges with Democrats and others aren’t new. Vance, both in person and on Elon Musk’s platform X, has been eager to challenge left-leaning viewpoints. Recently, he launched an account on Bluesky, a platform often seen as a refuge for liberal discourse—and things took an unexpected turn.

“Hello Bluesky, I signed up to engage in what I’ve heard is a space for sensible political discussion and analysis,” Vance stated.

“Many of these scientists may add that they receive substantial resources from large pharmaceutical companies to push these drugs into their children,” he added.

Along with his initial post, he shared a Supreme Court ruling from United States vs Skulmetti, which aligns with a controversial stance on Tennessee’s policies regarding gender transitions for minors—a topic that certainly raised eyebrows.

Vance emphasized parts of the ruling by Chief Justice John Roberts, pointing out the lack of a medical consensus on the best treatments for youth experiencing gender dysphoria. In a subsequent message, he echoed Judge Thomas’s concerns regarding the “experts” advocating for what he views as experimental and harmful therapies.

He further questioned, “What do you think?” prompting reactions, perhaps either to provoke or genuinely engage a Bluesky audience.

Responses soon flooded in. Users from the left criticized him, many hurling accusations while some even threatened to report him for perceived violations of platform rules.

Yet, in a twist, about 12 minutes after his first post, Vance found his account suspended, as reported by Axios. Users attempting to respond soon saw notifications that his account was “Not found. Account has been suspended.”

Bluesky later clarified that the suspension might have been a mistake, possibly linked to an automated detection system aimed at identifying accounts impersonating public figures. They announced that Vance’s account had been restored and verified, welcoming him back to join the conversation.

As of the latest update, while his first post faced a barrage of negative comments, he had managed to accrue over 7,500 followers. Interestingly, 81,000 users had blocked him by the time of publication.

Inquiries sent to Vance’s office for comments went unanswered.
