JD Vance refutes claims that the FBI search of John Bolton's home was politically motivated

Vance Denies Political Motivation Behind FBI Search of Bolton’s Home

Vice President JD Vance has rejected the notion that the FBI’s search of former National Security Adviser John Bolton’s home was driven by political motives. In a recent statement made during an interview on NBC’s “Meet the Press,” Vance emphasized that the search is part of an ongoing investigation concerning Bolton, rather than a politically charged action against him due to his criticisms of President Trump.

When NBC host Kristen Welker inquired if the search was influenced by Bolton’s opposition to Trump, Vance firmly responded, “No, not at all.”

Vance further stated that if politics were at play, they would have acted differently. He referenced the Biden administration’s previous handling of investigations, implying that they had abandoned certain cases due to political reasons. “We haven’t done it yet,” he remarked, alluding to the careful approach taken by the current administration.

According to Vance, the investigation into Bolton also concerns classified documents; however, he noted that broader issues regarding Bolton are being examined. He underlined that the critical point is whether Bolton has committed any crimes against the American people, which, if found, he believes warrants prosecution.

Trump commented on the situation, mentioning he observed the search on television but lacked specifics about the inquiry. Notably, he has criticized Bolton in the past, especially for his memoir and its implications regarding classified material.

In a historical context, it seems investigations into Bolton had started years ago but were halted under the Biden administration for what some officials described as political reasons. During Trump’s presidency, the Justice Department attempted to block Bolton’s 2020 memoir, arguing it contained classified information, although a federal judge later allowed its publication.

Bolton has consistently opposed Trump since his departure from the administration, even criticizing Trump’s handling of classified documents. He’s raised concerns about Trump’s character and capacity for leadership, often reiterating the need for due process in legal matters.
