JD Vance says feelings not hurt by ‘weird’ insult from Democrats

Republican vice presidential nominee Sen. J.D. Vance (R-Ohio) said this weekend that he isn’t hurt by Democrats calling him a “nutjob” after comments he made before being nominated as former President Donald Trump’s running mate resurfaced.

“No, not at all,” Vance told Fox News reporters in an interview that aired Sunday. “I’ve never been hurt.”

“Look, the price of admission, the price of serving the people of this country, is that the Democrats are going to attack us with all their might, and I think that’s an honor,” Vance continued.

“As Harry Truman once said, ‘If you can’t stand criticism, get out of the kitchen,'” he said.

The brief interview took place during the election campaign and about two weeks after Trump announced that he would nominate Vance as his running mate for the Republican presidential nomination.

Vance has since faced heavy criticism over past comments, including saying the country is run by “childless, cat-loving women” – a comment he recently said was a “sarcastic comment.”

Democrats widely panned his comments as “bizarre.” Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer of New York said Trump’s selection of Vance as his running mate was “one of the best things the former president did for the Democratic Party.”

“It’s strange to allocate extra voting rights to certain people based on the size of their family. It’s strange to ban library books. It’s strange for the government to be in people’s bedrooms. It’s strange for the government to be in exam rooms. ‘Weird’ is an observation, not a schoolyard taunt,” said Sen. Brian Schatz (D-Hawaii). stated on social platform X On Sunday night.

Harris’ campaign seized on those comments to suggest that Trump regrets choosing Vance as his running mate, after some House Republicans told The Hill that Vance was not the best choice to be Trump’s running mate.
