J.D. Vance to Release Book on Faith Journey

Vice President J.D. Vance is set to publish a book in June detailing his journey back to faith and his conversion to Catholicism, as announced by his publisher.

The book, titled COMMUNION: Finding My Way Back to Faith, offers a personal narrative about Vance’s departure from Christianity and his embrace of Catholicism later in life, according to a press release from HarperCollins Publishers. It is expected to hit shelves on June 16, 2026.

“My story of regaining faith is rooted in the fact that I had lost it in the first place,” Vance shared. “A lingering question for me is why I veered off course. I often wonder why my early faith wasn’t more stable. I’m thankful to have returned to the church and learned a great deal throughout this process. If you share my beliefs, you might agree I’ve been fortunate, touched by divine grace. To summarize, I am a Christian who came to believe in Jesus Christ’s teachings. I didn’t always feel this way, so perhaps sharing my story might resonate with others—whether they’re Catholics, Protestants, or folks exploring their own spirituality.”

Vance expressed eagerness about the book’s release. “I’ve spent a long time writing this, and it feels rewarding to finally share it with everyone. COMMUNION tells the tale of my personal journey back to faith,” he noted.

The vice president’s book also explores how his faith influences his public service, as revealed in the press release.

Once an atheist, Vance officially converted to Catholicism in 2019 at St. Gertrude’s Convent in Cincinnati, Ohio.

Before this, he published the acclaimed memoir Hillbilly Elegy in June 2016, which detailed his unique upbringing in Middletown, Ohio, and captured the Appalachian values and socio-economic hurdles faced by his family.
