Vance Calls for Action Against Democratic Gerrymandering

In the ongoing debate over redistricting, Vice President JD Vance is advocating for a response to what he describes as “aggressive” gerrymandering by Democrats in states like California, New York, and Illinois.

Central to this argument is the contentious issue of fairness in congressional representation, which Vance believes is skewed by illegal immigration affecting how congressional seats are allocated.

“The democratic system in this country is broken because the person you vote doesn’t necessarily reflect who your representative is,” he stated during an interview with Maria Bartiromo on Fox News.

Vance emphasized the need to “rescale” the system, claiming it’s vital to challenge what he perceives as an unfair system created by Democrats.

Recently, the conversations around gerrymandering escalated, particularly as Texas Republicans worked on redrawing their congressional map. Meanwhile, Democrats from blue states have proposed measures to counteract the potential effects of Texas’s changes.

Reports indicate that Texas could gain five additional congressional seats, potentially benefiting the GOP.

Vance noted that for years, Democrats had a stronghold on this issue, but he feels that Republicans are now retaliating under Trump’s leadership.

“That’s ridiculously unfair,” he said, referring to the inclusion of illegal immigrants in population counts used for determining congressional representation.

He added that the only effective way to combat this is to redraw districts aggressively, mirroring actions taken by blue states.

According to Vance, by counting illegal immigrants, states like California have gained an excessive number of congressional seats, diluting representation from red states.

Despite warnings from critics that such tactics could further polarize the political landscape and invite more gerrymandering in blue states, Vance’s views resonate with a growing sentiment within the GOP. He seems unconcerned about the potential fallout, stating, “There’s not a lot of juice left from that lemon. Democrats are already doing as much as they can.”
