Vice President JD Vance Discusses Trump’s Crime Strategy in D.C.

In a recent interview on Ingraham’s Angle, Vice President JD Vance shared insights about the Trump administration’s initiatives regarding crime in Washington, D.C. He expressed confidence that, with the right political determination, even cities like D.C. could be made safe once again.

“If you have the political will to enforce the law, even cities like DC can be made safe again,” Vance stated during his discussion with Fox News host Laura Ingraham.

On August 11, Trump labeled a “crime emergency” in D.C., taking steps that included federalizing the metropolitan police department and deploying the D.C. National Guard to tackle crime. Vance mentioned that since this declaration, there has been a notable decrease in violent crime, down by 35%, with robbery rates falling even further, by 55%.

Vance aimed to highlight what he sees as “important lessons” from these efforts, even though he acknowledged that not all cities possess the same federal status as Washington.

“I hope that the American people realize you don’t have to live without law,” he remarked. “You don’t have to live at Third World murder rates. If you just control these cities, you can make them safe to live again.”

His remarks came during an unannounced visit to the National Guard forces at Union Station. Interestingly, they were met by a group of protesters chanting “Free DC.” Vance described the scene as “somewhat strange,” flipping the narrative by saying, “Let’s free DC from lawlessness. Let’s free Washington, DC from one of the highest murder rates in the world. That’s what we’re trying to free DC.”

Recalling personal experiences, Vance shared a moment when he brought his children to D.C., noting how they were frightened by the environment at that time. “A few years ago, when I brought my kids here, they were screaming by violent vagrants, and that scared hell from my children,” he reflected.

As for the future of Trump’s crime control measures, Congress will need to unify and pass a joint resolution once both Chambers return from their August break to extend the federal takeover initiatives.
