Vance Discusses Potential 2028 Ticket with Rubio
Vice President J.D. Vance recently appeared on the New York Post’s “Pod Force One with Miranda Devine” and fielded questions about a possible presidential partnership with Secretary of State Marco Rubio in the upcoming 2028 election. The buzz over this pairing escalated after former President Donald Trump dubbed them “unstoppable” while chatting with reporters on Air Force One earlier this week.
Vance shared that he had chatted with Trump over lunch roughly six months ago about the prospect of running alongside Rubio. “We try to meet for lunch every few weeks just to catch up and discuss various topics,” he explained regarding his meetings with the former president.
He mentioned that he had joked about the idea of a Vance-Rubio ticket to his secretary, noting it seemed a bit premature at the time. “What I tell people is that if we manage our responsibilities well, the politics will figure itself out,” Vance added. In his view, they have made a lot of progress since embarking on their current endeavors, although he acknowledged there’s still much to accomplish, particularly in addressing the economic challenges left by the prior administration.
“We’ve been addressing these issues bit by bit,” he noted. Vance is clear about his focus, stating that the American people elected him vice president, and he intends to put in the hard work needed over the next few years. He feels it’s important to prioritize effective governance before delving into political strategies. “Let’s focus on doing a good job for the American people first,” he emphasized.
When asked about any potential competition or tension with Rubio, who is 13 years his senior and has previously attempted a presidential run, Vance reassured that there wouldn’t be any issues. He referred to Rubio as a close friend within the administration, stating that their collaboration has been fruitful.
Vance expressed that dwelling too much on political aspirations might hinder his current responsibilities. “I’ve never woken up thinking about how to become president,” he said. Instead, his daily motivation is centered on performing well in his role. He believes that’s also the mindset Rubio holds as Secretary of State. “Every day, it should be about how we can effectively do our jobs,” he concluded.
