Vice President J.D. Vance to Publish Book on Faith Journey

Vice President J.D. Vance, who embraced Roman Catholicism later in life, is set to release a book detailing his conversion story this upcoming spring.

Harper, part of HarperCollins Publishers, announced to The Associated Press that Vance’s book titled “Communion: Finding Your Way Home to Faith” will launch on June 16. Vance’s shift towards Catholicism mirrors a broader trend among Millennials and Gen Z individuals, many of whom have moved away from secularism towards the Catholic Church.

“The narrative of my return to faith only unfolded because I had, well, lost it initially,” Vance, 41, remarked in a statement to the National Catholic Reporter. “A thought I’ve often pondered is why I strayed in the first place. It’s curious to consider why my early Christian beliefs didn’t take a deeper hold.”

This book release could signify Vance’s growing political aspirations, as he’s seen as a strong contender for the 2028 Republican nomination.

Recent Visits and Perceptions

Vance’s decision to write a book isn’t unusual for presidential hopefuls; many candidates leverage such opportunities to introduce themselves and clarify their messages ahead of campaigns, noted the news source. Interestingly, many potential Democratic candidates are either releasing or preparing to publish their own books.

HarperCollins previously enjoyed considerable success with Vance’s 2016 memoir, “Hillbilly Elegy,” which reflects on his childhood in Ohio and was later adapted into a Netflix film.

There’s been speculation that, like some Democrats, Vance might strategically release this book to set the stage for a presidential run.

Since converting to Catholicism in 2019, Vance has been working on this book. He often emphasizes that Christian values are essential for America’s renewal.

In 2025, he utilized Catholic theology to advocate for the deportation policies of the Trump administration, referencing the Latin term “ordo amoris,” which implies a hierarchy of care—prioritizing family, neighbors, and fellow citizens before extending attention to those outside the country.

The Associated Press highlighted that Vance could be the first sitting vice president to publish a book during their time in office.

Elected to the Ohio State Senate in 2022, Vance joined then-President Donald Trump as his running mate in the 2024 election, making him one of the youngest vice presidents in U.S. history.

Notably, he met with Pope Francis last April, just a day before the pope’s passing.
