As artificial intelligence rapidly changes the economy, there’s a growing concern among Americans about whether the pace of this technology is outstripping public awareness. In response, BlazeTV host Steve Deace is seeking answers to these pressing questions.
Vice President JD Vance is addressing this issue directly.
“A lot of our audiences feel overwhelmed, Mr. Vice President,” Deace remarked. “Unlike the internet’s phased introduction, AI seems to be imposed on us all at once.”
“It’s as if AI has taken over in a snap,” he continued. “Nobody wants external forces, like China, dictating our technological direction, but we also have to address domestic concerns about resource use and job placement for Americans.”
“Could you provide some clarity on this?” Deace inquired.
Vance responded by discussing local control in relation to data centers. “The backlash can often be traced back to a desire for local governance. These centers are key economic drivers, but they need to be integrated thoughtfully,” he stated.
“To do this right, we should adhere to the taxpayer protection principles set out by the Trump administration,” Vance suggested. He noted that when data centers develop their own power sources, the local pushback tends to be less severe.
“Conversely, when these centers rely on existing grids and residents notice their electricity costs rising steeply, that’s a significant issue,” he added. “I wouldn’t support a data center that imposes higher energy bills on the community.”
Regarding AI, Vance expressed his belief that technology should enhance human lives. “Ultimately, technology should serve individuals, not dominate them,” he asserted.
“What concerns me is when tech companies say they’ve lost control over these systems,” he said, adding that accountability for tech companies is crucial. “The answer isn’t in granting them regulatory exemptions or letting them steer regulations.”
