JD Vance Tops Tim Walz in First Post-Debate Polling

Sen. J.D. Vance's (R-Ohio) attention to facts plays nicely with Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz's (D) sugar-coated outlandish statements during Tuesday night's vice presidential debate. It seems to have helped.

At least, that's the opinion of those polled immediately after the showdown by CBS News, which hosted the forum.

According to a CBS poll, Saw According to By the Hill, 42% of debate watchers said Vance, a Yale-trained lawyer, won the debate.

Forty-one percent of viewers said Waltz won, with Waltz a close second. Approximately 17% answered that they had the same score.

According to the survey, nearly all debate viewers (88%) said the showdown between Vance and Walz was generally positive, while 12% said it was generally negative.

CBS hosted a vice presidential debate at its headquarters in New York City, moderated by anchors Margaret Brennan and Norah O'Donnell.

In the poll, more than 50% of viewers said Vance, former President Donald Trump's 2024 running mate, did a better job, but 49% chose Walz.

The CBS/YouGov poll, conducted Oct. 1 among voters who said they planned to watch the debate in advance, had a margin of error of 2.7 percentage points.

The CNN/SSRS poll was conducted among 574 voters who watched the debate and said they had previously been recruited to participate in the SSRS poll. The margin of error is 5.3 percentage points.
