Vance Expresses Concerns Over NFL Bias Amid Kelce and Swift Engagement
Vice President JD Vance has voiced his worries regarding the NFL’s support for the Kansas City Chiefs, particularly with the recent engagement of Travis Kelce to Taylor Swift. He expressed concerns about a possible “Super Bowl wedding,” which he thinks could unfairly favor the Chiefs.
As a football fan, specifically a Cincinnati Bengals supporter, Vance hopes the NFL maintains a fair playing field. He mentioned, “I just hope they don’t show favoritism towards the Chiefs.”
The Vice President, who is originally from Ohio, fears the league might enable the engaged couple to create a fairytale narrative, blending their on-field and off-field lives, especially since Kelce plays as the tight end for the team.
Vance remarked, “I worry they might come up with something special for their wedding this season. That wouldn’t be right. The Kansas City Chiefs need to abide by the same rules as everyone else.”
Despite his concerns, Vance also congratulated the couple, suggesting that politicians should keep their focus on governance while celebrities should stick to their fields of fame. “When I see two people getting married, I genuinely wish them well. I hope they share a lengthy, healthy, and happy life together,” he added.
NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell has dismissed any claims that the league showed favoritism towards the Chiefs earlier in the year. He called such theories “silly” at the annual Super Bowl press conference.
This season, the Chiefs have faced defeats in all three of their preseason games.
Swift first appeared at a Chiefs game in September 2023 and has been a regular attendee ever since, often accompanied by fellow celebrities. During their relationship, Kelce’s team made it to the Super Bowl twice.
Kelce and the Chiefs triumphed over the 49ers in the 2024 Super Bowl, but were defeated by the Eagles in 2025.
There have been conspiracy theories suggesting that their relationship might somehow be a strategic move for political advantage, particularly regarding the Democrats’ grip on the White House.
Swift appears to have become involved with Kamala Harris during the 2024 presidential election, which has drawn criticism from Vance, who previously described Swift in unflattering terms.
In response to comments made about Swift’s influence, Vance labeled the star a “disrupted” billionaire.
While many appreciate Taylor Swift’s music, Vance noted that opinions on her vary widely among the public, particularly as they discussed her engagement on media platforms.
After two years of dating, Swift and Kelce announced their engagement on Tuesday with a playful caption on Instagram referencing their relatable relationship.
