Vice President J.D. Vance’s Appearance on ABC’s The View
Vice President J.D. Vance made a notable appearance on ABC’s The View on June 16, where he promoted his new book and discussed various policies from the Trump administration. Notably, the episode attracted about 3.331 million viewers, marking the highest ratings for the show since the post-election episode in 2024, and the second most-watched in roughly five and a half years, according to Nielsen Media Research.
The show averaged 2.942 million viewers that week, reflecting a 22% increase from the previous week. Vance was on the show primarily to promote his book, Communion: Finding Your Way Back to the Faith, which follows his bestselling 2016 memoir, Hillbilly Elegy. This new work chronicles Vance’s journey back to Christianity and his conversion to Catholicism.
Vance had announced the book’s release prior to Easter, expressing his joy in a post on X, stating that he’s been working on it for quite some time. He mentioned that Communion recounts his personal path and how he returned to his faith.
Describing the book, Vance refers to it as an “intimate account” detailing his departure from the Christianity of his youth and the experiences that ultimately led him back. He notes that the narrative covers his spiritual journey at various life stages—childhood, as a husband, a father, and a leader—something that wasn’t fully captured in his previous work.
During the June 16 broadcast, Vance defended President Trump’s comments regarding affordability after Joy Behar remarked on Trump’s description of the issue as a hoax. Vance countered Behar, saying the notion that Republicans were responsible for the affordability crisis was unfounded, pointing to the Biden administration’s inflation rates, which rose to 9%. He acknowledged the current inflation is too high but asserted that efforts are underway to reduce it to 2.5%. When Ana Navarro mentioned Trump’s remarks about loving inflation, Vance interpreted this to mean Trump values the prospect of reduced inflation post-conflict.
Additionally, Vance addressed questions surrounding the Epstein case after Sunny Hostin pointed out Trump’s criticisms about how the administration handled it. According to a report from The New York Times, Vance played a significant role in the release of related files. He urged viewers not to take everything at face value from the media, as stories can contain inaccuracies or lack necessary context. While advocating for transparency, he acknowledged Epstein’s criminal background and insisted that the White House was committed to transparency efforts, referencing the Epstein File Transparency Act and noting that Trump had, in fact, reported Epstein to authorities.
