Janine Pirro Takes Office as Interim U.S. Attorney
Janine Pirro, a former judge, was officially sworn in as the interim U.S. attorney in Washington, D.C. on Thursday. President Donald Trump hailed her as “a powerful crusader for crime victims.”
Pirro’s appointment has been discussed following Trump’s announcement of her new role, which has garnered significant attention.
At 73, she is set to lead a team of lawyers who will defend the Trump administration in court while also tackling local crimes in the capital. Trump had previously detailed her extensive career in a social media post on May 8th.
Janine Pirro previously served as an assistant district attorney in Westchester County, New York, and went on to become the first woman to be elected as a county judge and district attorney. Throughout her career, she has been a strong advocate for crime victims, even establishing the first domestic violence department in her prosecutor’s office in the country. Beyond her legal work, Pirro hosted her own Fox News show, “Justice with Janine,” for a decade and is currently a co-host on another popular program. Many regard her as one of New York State’s most distinguished district attorneys, known for her capabilities.
In the context of Fox News, as they seek another co-host, there will be a rotation to fill her vacancy.
Additionally, there have been reports that former U.S. attorney Ed Martin is in line for a role as “director, assistant deputy attorney general and pardoning attorney of the Weaponization Working Group.” Trump emphasized the importance of these positions in addressing the alleged weaponization of government under the Biden administration to deliver justice to victims.
Following her announcement, Pirro received congratulations from several quarters, including actor James Woods, who expressed his approval in a social media post, noting his optimism about her capabilities.
“After what seemed like a misguided appointment, our president has chosen a powerful figure to address the challenges in D.C.,” Woods remarked.
