Jeezy’s Extraordinary Uber Journey
Sometimes, you just have to keep going—no matter what.
Hip-hop veteran Jeezy, whose real name is Jay Wayne Jenkins, embarked on a remarkable 10-hour Uber ride from South Carolina to Baltimore to honor a concert commitment after all his flights were canceled.
Scheduled to take the stage in Baltimore on August 1, Jeezy had just wrapped up a performance in Atlanta and faced no viable options to reach the venue.
“I woke up and informed my team that all flights to Baltimore and DC were canceled,” he shared in an Instagram post on August 4. “Then they let me know that my driver was on the way to pick me up, so we managed to drive to Baltimore for the next stop on the tour. About two hours into the trip, we had some trouble on the highway—punctured gas tanks and fuel everywhere.”
His team initially attempted to secure a private jet in South Carolina, where the vehicle had broken down for a “motivation night.” However, they decided on an Uber ride to alter their travel plans.
While on the plane, Jeezy asked driver Tanner how much it would cost to take him directly to the concert, which was quite a distance away.
“Let me think about it,” Tanner replied.
Jeezy assured him whatever the price was, it wouldn’t be an issue. “He didn’t hesitate and just kept driving,” Jeezy noted.
Ultimately, they arrived at the venue just 10 minutes before showtime. Tanner mentioned they only stopped once for gas and food throughout the entire trip.
“I told him I made a lot of people happy tonight! I gave him a snowman tee and told him he was the guest at tonight’s show,” Jeezy recounted.
The four-time Grammy-nominated artist introduced Tanner on stage to an enthusiastic crowd of thousands. “You can’t make this up,” he told his fans in Baltimore.
Jeezy hasn’t disclosed how much he compensated Tanner for the journey.
Tanner reflected positively on the experience, saying, “This turned out to be more than I expected. Thanks to Jeezy—he was really cool, a genuinely nice guy.”
Fans praised Tanner for his professionalism in supporting the rapper. One commented, “Tanner was an MVP! Your team made this happen!” while another added, “I hope you made it back safe; great job!”
