Recent disclosures reveal that Jeff Bezos has sold a staggering $5.7 billion worth of Amazon shares since marrying Lauren Sanchez last month.
The selling spree kicked off on June 27, with Bezos offloading $737 million worth of shares shortly after his wedding in Venice. This transaction is part of a trading plan involving up to 25 million shares that he set up earlier this year.
The final sales from this 25 million share plan occurred on Wednesday and Thursday, where Bezos sold 4.2 million shares for about $954 million.
These stock sales coincided with a strong upward trend for Amazon’s shares, which have surged by 38% since hitting a low point in late April.
Market analysts are now closely watching Amazon’s upcoming revenue report to see if the company’s significant investments in artificial intelligence will yield returns.
According to Bloomberg data, Bezos, who stepped down as CEO in July 2021, has sold over $50 billion of his Amazon stake since 2002.
Despite these sales, he still holds around 884 million shares, making up more than 8% of the company.
As ranked by the Bloomberg Billionaire Index, Bezos is currently the third richest person in the world, with a net worth of $252.3 billion, primarily derived from his Amazon holdings.
The stock transactions were executed under a 10B5-1 trading plan, a strategy commonly used by corporate leaders to avoid insider trading accusations.
Bezos has a history of selling Amazon shares, having sold 75 million shares for $13.6 billion last year.
Typically, these stock sales are directed toward financing his other business ventures, like his space company, Blue Origin. He also donated around $190 million worth of stock to charity in 2025.
Records from as far back as 2002 indicate that Bezos has only made one purchase of Amazon shares, winning a single share two years ago for $114.77.
This year’s stock sales by Bezos surpass those of other notable corporate insiders, such as Safra Catz from Oracle Corp., who sold $2.5 billion, and Michael Dell from Dell Technologies, who disposed of $2.2 billion in shares.
Requests for comments from Amazon and Bezos representatives have gone unanswered so far.
