Mike Vrabel’s Remarkable First Season with the Patriots

Mike Vrabel has made quite a splash in his first year as head coach, leading the New England Patriots to the Super Bowl in 2026. This is especially impressive given that just a year prior, the team finished at the bottom of the AFC East.

Before joining the Patriots, Vrabel was the head coach of the Tennessee Titans for five seasons. His tenure there, however, ended in early 2024 after he was let go. During his time with the Titans, he successfully guided the team to the playoffs three times, including a memorable run to the AFC Championship game.

One of his former players, defensive lineman Jeffery Simmons, has kept an eye on Vrabel’s journey. From his own home, he watched as Vrabel’s new team competed for the championship while the Titans themselves struggled, winning only three games for the second consecutive season.

Simmons expressed a mix of shock and envy when discussing Vrabel’s quick success, saying, “It’s surprising to see this guy go straight to the Super Bowl in his first year. Honestly, I’m insanely jealous. What gives? I was with you for four years, and we didn’t even make it to the big game?” This was shared on Terron Armstead’s podcast, “The Set.”

Yet, Simmons didn’t miss the chance to commend Vrabel for his ability to connect with players beyond the football field. He believes this quality is among the coach’s greatest strengths.

“When you can establish trust with your players off the field, they’re going to give their all for you. That’s what Vrabel brings to the table. His energy and ethos are contagious. It’s like, I may not be your father, but I want to make you feel secure because I’ll need you out there come game day.”

Looking ahead, the Titans are hoping to build on their experiences. With Robert Saleh stepping in as the new head coach and Cam Ward entering his second year, there’s a sense of anticipation for growth this upcoming season.
