House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries, D-New York, said on MSNBC’s “Deadline” on Friday that the “MAGA extremists” on the Supreme Court must be reined in by “legislative efforts to enforce a code of ethical conduct.”
“This is part of the challenge we face with an out-of-control Supreme Court that seems to be trying to act as if the judiciary is above the law,” Jeffries said. “For years, members of both the House and the Senate have been suggesting that it’s time for the Supreme Court to have an enforceable code of ethical conduct.”
“Chief Justice Roberts implemented a code of conduct last year, but it appears to be voluntary and is being ignored. So I think that at the first opportunity we have in Congress, we need to have a serious discussion about legislative efforts to implement an enforceable code of ethical conduct for the Supreme Court, which is currently the only branch of government that can operate without impunity,” he said.
Jeffries added, “Congress has a code of ethical conduct that can be enforced by law. The executive branch has a code of ethical conduct that can be enforced by law. We must rein in the MAGA extremists on the Supreme Court.”
