Jen Paul made her Major League Baseball debut as the first female umpire during Saturday’s doubleheader between the Braves and Marlins.

As reported, the average umpire for the 2025 season had an accuracy rate of 94.23%, while Pawol achieved an impressive 95% for ball calls, with only five out of 104 being incorrect. The standard average for these calls is about 97%.

Regarding her strike accuracy, she registered at 88%, having called six out of 47 strikes incorrectly, which aligns with the average rate of 88%.

After the Marlins’ 7-1 loss on Sunday, manager Clayton McCullough praised Pawol’s performance, stating she managed the game well and highlighted the significance of her debut for Major League Baseball.

At 48, Paul hails from West Milford, New Jersey, and has built an extensive resume with over 1,200 minor league games over the past decade.

She felt the support from the Atlanta Braves fans when she stepped onto the field for her historical moment. “It felt amazing,” Paul reflected, noting the fans cheering and calling her name, which was emotional for her.

Pawol officiated as a base umpire in the second game and covered first base in the first match of the doubleheader.

Braves’ manager Brian Snittker also acknowledged her efforts, stating, “She did a good job,” and expressed confidence in her abilities.

As a minor league rover, it remains unclear what her next assignment in the MLB will be.
