Jen Psaki Discusses the 25th Amendment on ‘Straight Shooter’
During a recent chat on “Straight Shooter” with Stephen A. Smith, MS NOW host Jen Psaki downplayed the ongoing discussions about using the 25th Amendment against President Donald Trump. She raised questions about why Democrats seem so focused on it, suggesting that it “will never happen.”
Smith pointed out that the left appears very “vehemently opposed” to the other side, giving off a “bitter” impression. Psaki responded, stating that while she can’t speak for everyone on the left, many share the sentiment that the current approach isn’t very constructive. “You’re talking about the 25th Amendment; it’s okay to support it, but let’s be real—why waste time on something that isn’t likely to occur?” she remarked.
Smith also dismissed the idea of invoking the 25th Amendment against Trump.
Comments from Former Lawmaker
Demands to activate the 25th Amendment have surfaced from various Democrats and outspoken critics of Trump, including former Republican Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene.
Psaki noted that some progressive Democrats feel their core identity is at stake under Trump’s leadership. However, she emphasized the necessity of broadening their appeal to secure electoral victories. “To win, you need to welcome more people into your fold,” she explained. “Sometimes, it seems like there’s a litmus test defining who qualifies as a Democrat or a progressive.”
Concerns on Approach to Trump
Psaki acknowledged that the Democrats’ instinct to “scream” at every move made by Trump hasn’t been beneficial. “It feels like a constant shout about every action from his administration. Yes, there’s a lot to be upset about, but I don’t believe that approach is the most effective.”
She added that over 50 Democratic Congress members have expressed the need to consider the 25th Amendment due to concerns about Trump’s fitness for office, particularly regarding his rhetoric about Iran. This reaction was sparked by Trump’s alarming statement that “the entire civilization will perish” if Iran doesn’t comply with reopening the Strait of Hormuz.
Senator Andy Kim (D.N.J.) remarked, “I truly believe the president should be removed from office. He is unfit. We need the 25th Amendment, or else impeachment is on the table.”
