Ortega spoke candidly about his experience working on the Netflix series, saying he felt he had to make some changes to his character during filming without consulting the writers.

“On set, I even started changing my lines and acting unprofessional in a way. The script supervisor thought I was trying to change something, but I had to sit down with the writers and they were like, ‘Wait a minute, what happened in that scene?’ And I had to explain why I couldn’t do certain things,” she said.
The 21-year-old actress will return for season two, this time with more creative input as a producer, and Ortega has already said the show will take a darker direction, “upping the horror element” and ditching the romantic storylines.
“We’re going to eliminate any romance, which is really great,” she said. “We’re going to make it bolder, we’re going to make it darker.” She added that as a producer, she began working with writers early on to prepare for season two.
“We didn’t want to mislead a character like Wednesday who is so beloved,” Ortega said.
