Jennifer Garner Reflects on Early Career
Jennifer Garner has been reminiscing about her beginnings in the entertainment industry. The star of “13 Going on 30” expressed her reservations about discussing her pivotal role in ABC’s “Alias.” She admitted that there was always a part of her that was fearful of inadvertently revealing something crucial.
“I should have ventured back into the world of ‘Alias.’ I was just too afraid to say anything,” Garner, aged 53, shared during a book event in Brentwood, California. “Honestly, I kept quiet.”
Garner’s appearance in Brentwood was to honor bestselling author Laura Dave, whose new novel, “The First Time I Saw Him,” is a sequel to “The Last Thing He Said to Me,” published in 2021. The first book turned into a global hit and led to a successful Apple TV series in 2023, with Garner playing the character Hannah Hall.
Interestingly, Dave also felt “so nervous about revealing a key plot twist” in his recent work, which took him back to his days on “Alias” two decades ago. The spy thriller, which debuted in 2001 and lasted five seasons, featured Garner as CIA agent Sidney Bristow.
The show, crafted by J.J. Abrams, was not just an espionage narrative; it was famous for its surprising plot twists that continually kept viewers on their toes, posing challenges for its cast, including Garner and Victor Garber.
During a past TV appearance, Garner has previously touched on the idea of a potential revival of “Alias.” Reflecting on the possibility in 2023, she exclaimed, “Oh my god, that would be incredible! So much fun.” However, she noted, “It’s really up to J.J. Nobody’s ever brought it up.”
At the same book signing, Garner talked about her ex-husband, Ben Affleck, and shared an amusing tidbit about his music habits. She recalled, “He played Beyoncé’s ‘Halo’ on repeat when he was filming ‘The Town’ in Massachusetts in 2009.”
The two were married in 2005 but parted ways a decade later in 2015, raising three children: Violet, 20, Seraphina, 17, and Samuel, 13.
While engaging with attendees at Diesel A Bookstore, Garner inquired, “Do you ever listen to songs on repeat?” She added, “I just want to emphasize: I lived through this.”
She continued, “Ben was obsessed with ‘Halo.’ I was nursing while trying to manage a newborn and a toddler in a rented house.”
Dave chimed in, mentioning that he, too, enjoys looping the same tracks intermittently. “It’s comforting to know I’m not alone in this,” he remarked, referencing playwright Tom Stoppard as another such individual.
