Jennifer Lopez had a candid chat with Craig Melvin during an interview on the “Today” show on October 6. They touched on her divorce from Ben Affleck, as Melvin asked, “Your divorce finalized during the filming of this stunning musical, right?”
“I’ll go there!” Lopez, who is 56, responded with a playful tone. She couldn’t help but react to the subject, adding a touch of humor.
Melvin explained that he had only brought it up because he was involved in producing a musical drama that featured Affleck, who is 53.
He mentioned, “Your ex is the executive producer of this film.” This seemed to throw Lopez into a lighthearted discussion about the complexities of their past.
Lopez acknowledged her connection to the film’s creation. “If it wasn’t for Ben, this movie wouldn’t exist,” she credited him. “I always recognize that.”
She reflected on their split, saying, “Things happen, and you just move on.” While she didn’t dive deeply into details about their divorce, she noted how the filmmaking process had been healing.
“Films provide an escape during tough times,” she shared, explaining how working on “Kiss of the Spider Woman” was a dream come true for her.
When talking about her next steps, Lopez mentioned needing a bit of downtime after this project. “Everyone is eager to see it,” she added, emphasizing that it’s a heartfelt film.
Lopez and Affleck had reignited their romance in early 2021 after previously breaking off their engagement in 2004. They eventually tied the knot again in 2022, but their marriage was short-lived.
In a quiet resolution, Lopez filed for divorce in August 2024, and they finalized the process by January 2025.
Previously, in an interview with “CBS News Sunday Morning,” Lopez had talked openly about filming “Spider Woman Kiss” while going through the challenges of her split. “It was tough,” she admitted, “but being on set was such a joy.”
Affleck has spoken highly of her post-divorce, commending Lopez for being an incredible person and a great influence on his children. He has three kids with his ex-wife Jennifer Garner, while Lopez shares twins with her former husband Marc Anthony.
