She continued, “A, it’s a lot of fun, and B, it takes the drama out of my head. It doesn’t take me out of my head of drama and into a happier head of drama.”

Before filming the heartbreaking scene, Hewitt told the outlet that she tried to avoid looking at pictures of her three children because it caused her to have the opposite reaction.

“It’s hard for me to look at pictures of my kids when I’m doing a crying scene because it makes me feel really happy,” she says, “so I often watch videos of people popping pimples.”

The “I Know This is So” actress has three children, 10-year-old daughter Autumn, eight-year-old son Atticus and two-year-old son Aidan, with her husband Brian Hallisay.

Hewitt also shared other techniques that helped her prepare for emotional scenes.

“I listen to a lot of music to get myself in the mood,” she says, “and I try to take it easy in between.”

The Texas native said returning home to Autumn, Atticus and Aidan helped her shake off the negativity she felt while filming the dramatic series.

“Honestly, since I had kids, it’s gotten easier to be dramatic,” Hewitt says. “I’ve got a much better balance of going to work and being dramatic and doing all that stuff, and then as soon as I get home I feel like I have to do something silly.”

“It instantly brightens my mood,” she said.
