Jenny Slatten and Sumit Singh, stars of “90 Day Fiancé,” recently revealed that Slatten has lost the ability to speak as she continues to battle amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS).
In a touching video shared on Instagram, Singh asked Slatten if she had a message for their followers. Her response was slow and heartbreaking: “No, I can’t talk.”
Singh explained that the ALS is worsening, impacting her ability to communicate clearly. He mentioned that she’s also struggling more with walking and maintaining her balance.
He described her condition, noting that it involves losing strength in her backbone and neck, which makes it harder for her to move around safely. There’s also a sense of urgency; he expressed a hope that they could return to the United States for better treatment than she can receive in India, where she moved to marry him. Unfortunately, his visa application remains unapproved, and they both feel uneasy about her travelling alone. There’s a fear that once she receives treatment in the U.S., returning to India could become complicated.
Singh reflected on the gravity of their situation, saying, “If I don’t get the visa, it means that we will be apart forever. This is a reason Jenny doesn’t want to go to America without me.”
He reached out for assistance, highlighting how fellow cast members on the show, Armando Rubio and Kenny Niedermeier, had garnered support when Rubio faced issues crossing the border to see his daughter during a medical emergency. After significant attention, Rubio was granted a humanitarian visa.
Singh underscored Slatten’s condition, mentioning that she is becoming “weaker,” and it’s increasingly difficult for her to walk or stand steadily.
At 38 years old, Singh expressed his willingness to provide any necessary documentation for his visa application, hoping that a lawyer or immigration specialist might find a solution.
“We love each other, and obviously, I want Jenny to start getting treated and I want her to begin feeling better or at least have a support system that helps her not struggle every day,” he stated. He seemed a bit lost, wondering what else might be needed to convince the embassy for his visa approval.
Singh has turned to fans, asking for help to navigate this challenging situation. Their relationship, which was documented over several seasons of “90 Day Fiancé,” has faced its share of trials, especially given their significant age difference. They managed to marry after meeting online, despite the odds.
Since announcing Slatten’s ALS diagnosis in May, the couple has kept fans updated. Just last month, they clarified that she hadn’t been hospitalized, but significant changes in her speech were evident.
In an earlier video, Slatten stated, “I’m OK. I talk slow but I’m able to take care of myself… with help from him.” Singh affirmed his support, saying, “I’m always there for her.”
