Oregon mother Jenny Duvander has set a world record for the largest tongue circumference for a woman, Guinness World Records announced Tuesday.
Duvander’s tongue measures a whopping 5.21 inches in circumference, which is wider than the size of a soda can.
“It looks pretty weird,” she admitted in a press release issued by Guinness World Records.
In the video, Duvander’s doctor wrapped a piece of dental floss around her tongue and measured the floss with a ruler to find the girth. It was published online this week by a records tracking organization.
The Portland resident read the 2023 Guinness World Records book with her son at bedtime and saw a photo of the male record holder, which inspired her to seek out the record.
“I didn’t know the area around the tongue was important!” she said. “I immediately measured myself at her house and found out I was at least 12 centimeters.”
Duvander said that while the size of her giant tongue doesn’t actually help much, it is valuable when comparing tongue techniques to others and may help her musical aspirations. Ta.
“I also play the flute, and a strong tongue really helps me play fast notes,” said the Portland mom.
She credited her son with encouraging her to seek the records.
“My son Evan loves Guinness World Records and devoured the hardcover book every year,” she said. “My record is definitely inspired by his love of facts and human ability.”
West Virginia resident Braydon McCullough took home the record for the largest tongue circumference in a man in May 2023.
According to Guinness World Records, his tongue has a circumference of 6.3 inches, which is similar to the circumference of a lemon.
