Jenny Lewis Celebrates 50th Birthday with a Unique Ceremony

Jenny Lewis, the lead singer of Rilo Kiley, decided to celebrate her 50th birthday in a rather unconventional way—by “marrying” her dog, Bobby Rhubarb. This weekend, she shared a charming Polaroid snapshot on social media featuring herself beside her cockapoo, decked out in a wedding dress, veil, and holding a bouquet.

“I married my dog on my 50th birthday… God bless you!” she wrote as a caption. The image was shared on X, the platform previously known as Twitter.

In one of the Polaroids, there were two rainbow-striped cakes; one read “JL50!” while the other cheekily stated, “I think so, for better or for worse!”

Lewis invited close friends and family to the celebration, according to reports. Among the attendees was her Postal Service bandmate Ben Gibbard, who performed “Such Great Heights” with her.

Other friends present included Morgan Nagler, Dave Sher, and Alex Greenwald.

Looking back, Lewis opened up about her bond with Bobby Rhubarb during a recent interview. She described the difficult times she faced before adopting him in her 40s. “I was in a really tough spot,” she shared. Having felt isolated during a year of quarantine, she noted that adopting Bobby helped her find joy and responsibility.

“I don’t have children, but this dog opened me up in so many ways, about being responsible for your soul and valuing things outside of yourself. That was a really important lesson for me,” Lewis reflected. She humorously added, “I dreamed of having a white wolf. Instead, I ended up having a cockapoo.”
