‘Jeopardy!’ contestants stumped by Taylor Swift question: ‘We’re going to get killed for that’

Taylor Swift’s question stumped all three Jeopardy: Tournament of Champions contestants on a recent episode of the long-running game show.

On Thursday’s episode, contestants Ben Chan, Yogesh Raut and Troy Meyer prove they’re not Swifties by missing out on a $400 tip about the 34-year-old pop star on “Jeopardy!” did. Category “Youth Songs”.

The prompt given to the contestants by presenter Ken Jennings included: “Inspired by her best friend, Tay Tay said at the age of this title, “When someone tells you they love you” and “You are “I will believe in them,” he sang.

Mr. Meyer, a music industry executive who lives in Tampa Bay, Florida, guessed that he was 17 years old, and Mr. Rout, a psychologist in Vancouver, Washington, said he was 22.

The correct answer was “Fifteen,” the title of a country-pop song from Swift’s second studio album, Fearless. The musician previously said that “Fifteen” was inspired by his high school best friend Abigail Anderson. Anderson said Swift also went through a difficult breakup with her boyfriend when she was 15 years old.

“You’re going to get killed for that,” Meyer said with a laugh.

Meier, Rout and Chan, a philosophy professor from Green Bay, Wis., are competing in a seven-way final for a $250,000 prize. Chang, who has won nine times, leads with two wins, while Meyer, who has won six games, and Rout, who has won three games, each have one win.

In the end, all three champions missed the “Jeopardy!” question. Fans expressed their disbelief on social media.

“I can’t believe this episode’s triple stumbling block was about Taylor Swift,” one X user wrote.

Another fan added: “Yeah #jeopardy! Players, Twitter will tear you apart for not knowing Taylor Swift’s ’15.'”

“I found a common weakness among the three @Jeopardy Tournament of Champions finalists… @taylorswift13,” a fan commented on X.

“The only wrong reaction in the entire last episode of #Jeopardy was to the Tay Tay song. Please don’t tell the Swifties about this…” another X user wrote.

“The Swifties are about to descend on the Alex Trebek Stage… #Jeopardy,” one viewer wrote.

Thursday’s episode wasn’t the first time it included a Swift-related question that stumped all the contestants. In May, contestants Diandra D’Alessio, Nathan Dennis and Ilhana Rezovic missed the Final Jeopardy question, which many fans of the 12-time Grammy winner were quick to predict on social media.

The clue was in the ‘Literary Societies’ category, which read: ‘Windermere, Thirlmere and Grasmere are three places that helped give this name to 19th century literary societies.’

The correct answer was “Who is the Lake Poet?” The song “The Lakes,” from the deluxe edition of Swift’s 2020 album Folklore, included lyrics that referenced the locations mentioned in the question and the Lake Poets.

On a July 2022 episode of Jeopardy!, all three contestants were stumped by a question about one of Swift’s most famous songs.

After contestant Matt Mielswa picked a $400 clue in the “Rhyming Title” category, Jennings read the following prompt: Could you please stop and don’t step on my gown? ”

“I wish this was Johnny.” [Gilbert] When Mierswa couldn’t guess the answer, Jennings replied, “This is ‘You Need to Calm Down’ by Taylor Swift.”

In January, “Danger! We paid homage to Swift with an entire category inspired by Swift. The first four categories feature Swift song titles “Love Story,” “Our Song,” “Bad Blood,” “Shake It Off,” and “We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together,” while the fifth The category “The Errors Tour” refers to her record-breaking The Errors Tour.
